Le sigh.
Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered a brutal knee injury during the Red Devils’ Europa League quarterfinal match vs. Anderlecht Thursday night at Old Trafford. The 35-year-old went up for an aerial challenge and landed awkwardly, hyperextending his right knee and tearing both his anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments.
How long the Swedish international’s recovery will take is up in the air, but even for an elite athlete like Zlatan, he’s probably done for 2017.
What does this mean for the Galaxy? Sadly, it appeared the Swedish football star was leaning towards coming to Los Angeles before the injury. If the front office wanted to risk signing Zlatan, he’s probably theirs for the taking.
Is signing Ibrahimovic worth the risk? It wouldn’t be the first time the Galaxy gambled on a 35-year-old coming back from an ACL tear. (See: Jermaine Jones)
We’ll have more on the story as it develops.
