Shifting focus away from MLS for a moment, the LA Galaxy are back on the road to take on the Portland Timbers in action of the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16. The winner will have the chance to play host to the Seattle Sounders in the quarterfinals on July 20.
I'ts been a busy last two weeks for the Galaxy. This will make for the third road game in just 11 days since their return from the international break. With that in mind, coach Bruce Arena is expected to field a side mixed with both starters and second string players, with Ashley Cole possibly getting the start after picking up a red card during last weekend's Cali Clasico.
It is worth nothing, the Galaxy have never reached a quarterfinals of the US Open Cup under Bruce Arena. The last time the Galaxy won the trophy was in 2005 when they clinched the double under Steve Sampson.
