The LA Galaxy suffered another bout of surrendering late goals in a match to the San Jose Earthquakes and the home side stole three points away from LA on June 29 in front of a packed house at Stanford Stadium.
Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane both had a pair of assists in the match and had the Galaxy out to a 2-0 lead before LA conceded three goals after the 65th minute. Donovan did not draw any fouls in the match but still turned in a very good Match Impact Rating of 60.3. Keane was able to draw one foul but was kept out of the excellent range of MIR by committing five fouls which dropped his MIR to a 69.3.
A surprise was that A.J. DeLaGarza finished third in the match in MIR with a 40. DeLaGarza suffered four fouls in his 90 minutes of action. Marcelo Sarvas, who scored the opening goal for the Galaxy, turned in a MIR of 35.2. Sarvas put half of his six attempts off target and picked up a yellow card for time wasting. Hector Jimenez scored the other Galaxy goal but only played 26 minutes which is not enough to record a MIR.
On the San Jose side, former Galaxy forward and supersub Alan Gordon only needed 26 minutes to score two goals and wreck a Galaxy win. Gordon, who scored a career-high 13 goals in 2012, showed why despite not playing enough minutes to rank in MIR he was No. 7 in last season's Striker Index. Gordon also had the highest goals per 90 minutes (0.90) of any of the players in the Index in 2012, including his prolific teammate and Striker Index winner Chris Wondolowski (0.86).
