It was absolutely paramount before Saturday’s match vs. Real Salt Lake that the LA Galaxy earn a positive result.
Sigi Schmid put out a second-string lineup with many of LA’s attacking weapons on the bench, and despite a shock opening goal from Jonathan dos Santos in the 1st minute LA never stood a chance. allowing RSL to score six goals in a rout that dampers the Galaxy’s 2018 MLS Cup playoff hopes.

Mike Petke’s RSL had just lost once all year at Rio Tinto, so it was always going to be a challenge for the Galaxy to compete. To be frank, despite a last-gasp goal from Damir Kreilach to end the half RSL could have been up by five. LA were second best in every aspect of the game.
After a Zlatan Ibrahimovic header that would have tied the match banged off the goalpost early on, Michael Ciani committed a horrific own goal that drained the Galaxy’s confidence and the rout was on.
LA now travel to Toronto in another must-win match.
