The LA Galaxy couldn’t hang with Manchester United in the mid-season friendly, losing 5-2.

It did not take long for Manchester United to strike first. In the second minute, Nathan Smith played bad back pass and Marcus Rashford picked his pocket. The English striker scored easily past Jon Kempin, giving United their first goal of their preseason.

The Manchester United striker then doubled his club’s lead in the 20th minute. Again, the Galaxy were sloppy in possession, and Rashford found the bottom left corner of the goal.

Five minutes later, the UEFA Europa League winners made it 3-0. Ander Herrera combined with Jesse Lingard down the left side of the pitch, before Lingard stopped at the byline. He turned quickly, as Smith slid by, cut a pass back to the top of the box to find Marouane Fellaini. The big Belgian sent on into the back of the net first time.

Anthony Martial nearly scored United’s fourth of the in the 59th minute of play. He took an effort from distance and blasted the ball just over the crossbar.

The Frenchman continued to be a thorn in the side of the Galaxy back line. Three minutes after his previous attempt, he was in behind the defense, only to be stopped by Brian Rowe.

Manchester United’s fourth goal did eventually come. In the 67th minute, Henrikh Mkhitaryan grabbed the goal for the English side.

A fifth goal came for United in the 72nd minute. Anthony Martial finally found the back of the net after a couple of close misses.

The Galaxy managed to get one on the scoreboard in the 79th minute, on their first real attempt on the night. Romain Alessandrini slotted a pass to Giovanni dos Santos, who made no mistake with his finish.

Off a corner in the 88th minute, the Galaxy scored their second goal of the night. Dave Romney got the initial header, but it looked like Dos Santos got a touch right before it found the net.

MLS action returns Wednesday night to the StubHub Center, where the Galaxy will host the Vancouver Whitecaps.
