LA Galaxy and Colorado Rapids draw

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

On Pride Night, the Galaxy kept the clean sheet but were unable to score themselves as LA and the Colorado Rapids fought to a scoreless draw Wednesday evening at the StubHub Center.

Giovani dos Santos returned to the lineup and Jack McBean earned a start up top, while Steven Gerrard would enter the game as a substitute later on.

The opening 45 minutes was a disjointed, physical stalemate as both teams tried to shake off the rust from an extended break during the Copa America Centenario.

Brian Rowe had to be sharp on several occasions, smothering Marlon Hairston on a breakaway in the 31st minute, then jumping quickly off his line to intercept a Marco Pappa blast from distance right before the break. For LA, Jack McBean managed to beat Rapids goalkeeper Zach MacMath to an aerial challenge from close range, but the attempt went over the crossbar.

The second half was more of the same for LA. In the 64th minute, Giovani dos Santos had a great look at a curving Dave Romney cross, but his right-footed volley sailed into the stands.

The Galaxy's best sequence came late, when Sebastian Lletget squared to Emmanuel Boateng inside the area only for his shot to deflect off a defender at the last second, then minutes later a Nigel de Jong shot from distance deflected dangerously, but MacMath palmed the loose ball away.

LA will now make the short trek up north to battle the Earthquakes this Saturday.
