LA Galaxy vs. Seattle gets the Monday Night Football treatment

I've always felt that we as citizens of the United States of America lost something when we went away from heavily orchestrated television intros. Case in point is Monday Night Football which still uses its incredible and memorable intro, but is more identified with a series of bad pop songs.

I've always felt that we as citizens of the United States of America lost something when we went away from heavily orchestrated television intros. Case in point is Monday Night Football which still uses its incredible and memorable intro, but is more identified with a series of bad pop songs.

That's why I was overjoyed when I discovered someone at Sounder at Heart had given this match week's Monday night matchup between the Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy the traditional Monday Night Football treatment. A mashup of the classic tune and MLS' post-World Cup promos which is a bunch of fun.

Did you know what we refer to as the MNF theme wasn't even written for Monday Night Football? It was commissioned by the BBC for a show called Superstars, and is still used with Olympic coverage in the UK. ABC developed a US version of Superstars, and acquired the rights to use it as the intro for Monday Night Football in 1978.

Anyhow, enjoy.
