LA Galaxy II defeated the Orange County Blues, 3-1, at the StubHub Center's Track and Field Stadium on Sunday. With their second victory over the OC Blues this season, Los Dos are once again at the top of the table in USL PRO.
The Blues scored first, just nine minutes into the match. The Blues took advantage of a loose ball and got on a 3-on-2 break downfield. Allan Russell was able to corral a long ball and cut it back to the middle of the penalty area where Edgar Santana was waiting. Santana took one touch and slotted it past Cody Laurendi as the defenders were still scrambling to cover the attack.
After the early goal, Galaxy II ramped up their offensive efforts, eventually taking 23 shots to the Blues' four attempts (Chandler Hoffman attempted 12 shots by himself). Los Dos went into the half trailing but found their way back in the 49th minute when a Rafael Garcia pass put Charlie Rugg past the last defender. Rugg was able to beat the Blues' keeper 1-v-1.
Hoffman would score the game-winner in the 73rd minute following some dominant possession in the attacking half. A five-pass sequence which Jack McBean started, took the ball from one side of the pitch and then the other and then back to the middle of goal ended when Hoffman buried the final pass from McBean which found a wide open Hoffman for a tap-in.
Laurent Courtois scored the third goal in the 90th minute, chipping the Blues' keeper, after receiving a pass from McBean in the area. Hoffman started the sequence by fighting through his marker and playing the ball over to McBean.
