A stunner from Landon Donovan from long range in the third minute of the match and a handful of saves from new goalkeeper Jaime Penedo was enough to lift the Galaxy to a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.
Donovan had the only offensive impact worth mentioning for the Galaxy. His Match Impact Rating was a 75.3 due to the goal on his only shot attempt of the match and two fouls suffered. No other player had a shot on target for LA and only Donovan drew more than one foul. Robbie Keane, Gyasi Zardes, Juninho and Marcelo Sarvas all finished with MIRs in the nines.
While it has nothing to do with MIR, it's hard not to dwell on the performance of Jaime Penedo. The Panamanian turned away five Whitecaps shots in the match, including this save of the year candidate following a Vancouver shot which struck the post.
