Those are some nice playoff odds for the LA Galaxy

With only six matches left, chances are high that the LA Galaxy extend their season.

This is it. The homestretch. Just six matches left in the regular season. While the LA Galaxy have hit a wall in terms of performance over the last month, they are still very much in a great position heading into the final handful of matches.

Despite being in the middle of a nine-match winless run, and looking like a team not only out of ideas, but in some ways, out of steam, this is still a team that can make this season one to remember. In fairness, they are already halfway there. They believe.

When you hear any of the players speak, in particular Javier Hernandez, you get the sense that there isn't any panic within the squad. Sure, everyone understands losing a lot of games, while fighting for the postseason, isn't a recipe for success, but there isn't desperation. Urgency, yes, but this is clearly a team that know what’s at stake, and have the faith that they will do what needs to be done.

It appears FiveThirtyEight also has faith in the LA Galaxy. To the tune of 69%. Those are the odds the site gives, as LA Galaxy’s chances at just making the playoffs. Given this was a team hardly anyone actually picked to make the postseason before the season began, and considering the team is in the middle of one of the worst runs in the league at the moment, those aren't bad chances. At all.

The team did an excellent job of navigating the season while dealing with several injuries to key players. Perhaps it’s not surprising, with everyone now healthy, this team has struggled to find that same fire, the feeling of having more to prove. The season isn't over yet, and with six matches left, the Galaxy are in control. Every win will further cement themselves in the postseason. If the Galaxy want to get back on track, and avoid the double-digit winless run, they’ll need to perform at home, against the Portland Timbers, in a week’s time.
