The LA Galaxy need a win, against any team will do, and there’s no doubt they would relish a special treat, which would be a win against LAFC in El Trafico on Sunday at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Galaxy’s winless skid is now eight games, and I’m sure they think eight is enough. After a 2-1 loss to Real Salt Lake on Wednesday that featured a decent attempt at a comeback that fell short, there’s nothing like a rivalry game to jumpstart the competitive juices and we know LA have usually had the upper hand on LAFC.
LAFC are slumping too, losing their last three games and currently sitting four points below the playoff line in the Western Conference. Both teams are desperate here, and will require wins in short order in order to have a chance of qualifying for the postseason this year.
Jorge Villafaña is questionable for the game, the defender possibly not making the squad at all if he doesn’t heal up enough, while Derrick Williams will likely also be listed as questionable. For LAFC, Carlos Vela, Tristan Blackmon, and Eddie Segura are starters all out, while reserves Kwadwo Opoku, Alvaro Quezada, Julian Gaines and Erik Dueñas join them and are out for the match.
So, it’s El Trafico, need I say more? Here’s a few more words: LA need to win this game. Their season won’t be over if they don’t, but the slump has gone on far too long. Time to see a much-needed victory.
Odds:
According to our friends at DraftKings Sportsbook, as of Saturday afternoon, LA are (+160), LAFC are (+165) and a draw is at (+255). So this is a toss-up, all the way, which makes sense considering the teams’ respective form.
How to Watch:
Sunday’s match between LA and LAFC will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, which you can watch on Fubo TV. The TV broadcast is scheduled to start at 5 pm PT with kickoff to follow at 5:08 pm.
