Reports in the Netherlands and England claim the LA Galaxy are interested in Dutch defender Jordy de Wijs. The Hull Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that De Wijs, enjoying a fine season for English Championship side Hull City, has drawn interest from the Galaxy, who have “reached out” to sign the center back for the 2020 season.

De Wijs, 25, came through PSV Eindhoven’s system, playing mostly for the reserves and in a loan spell with Excelsior, before signing with Hull City in 2018. He’s been a regular for the Tigers, as they sit in the middle of the Championship table just past the midway point.

This is an interesting rumor. On one hand, it’s pretty well known that the Galaxy need defensive upgrades, and Dennis te Kloese’s Dutch connections certainly make this plausible. At the same time, we also know that the Galaxy are connected to all manner of players around the world, and the English press can sometimes...stretch these stories more than a little bit. This seems possible, but worth monitoring for now and seeing if it picks up traction in the American press in the coming days.

More news for your Wednesday:

  • Araujo ready for USMNT debut: Julian Araujo is going through the paces at January camp for the U.S. Men’s National Team, and we’ve seen that sometimes Gregg Berhalter brings in youngsters just to train and observe the games the first time they’re invited. We’ve also seen him play plenty of youngsters. Will Araujo get the nod to make his senior team debut, in his home stadium, this weekend against Costa Rica? The defender is eager to make the bow, as you would expect.
  • USWNT open Olympic qualifying with win: The U.S. Women’s National Team, meanwhile, opened Concacaf Olympic qualifying on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over Haiti that was both comprehensive and, yes, shaky in some ways from the reigning World Cup champs. Between an early olimpico by Haiti incorrectly waived off, or some wayward finishing from the Americans, it’s also Vlatko Andonovski’s first competitive game in charge, and they got the W. On to the next one.
  • Preseason roster: If you are curious about who’s in preseason camp (of course you are), Corner of the Galaxy have a handy chart.

Today’s question: With a bit of room for roster moves but things falling into place pretty well, how are you feeling about the Galaxy roster a week into preseason? Let’s chat in the comments!
