The latest on Chicharito to the LA Galaxy? There may be a snag on the deal purported to be done earlier this week in some quarters. ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle, one of the best around regarding rumors, supported CBS Sports’ Roger Gonzalez claiming the deal may fall apart on Thursday.
Then, Corner of the Galaxy talked through the latest, as they understand it, in a podcast on Thursday. Sounds like there’s an oral agreement but negotiations are ongoing, to Josh and Larry a natural part of the process. All that and much more Galaxy discussion on the latest podcast!
Then on Friday morning, Grant Wahl reported on SI.com that the deal is indeed signed. It’s the latest, but needless to say you get a bit of each option from reputable American sources.
Here’s news for your Thursday morning:
- Katai interview: We got a few minutes with new Galaxy attacker Aleksandar Katai on Thursday, be sure to check it out. Katai was all about the team, and sounded genuinely excited to be joining the Galaxy. Going from an awful Chicago Fire team to a promising Galaxy team is a pretty nice switch, to be fair.
- NWSL Draft recap: The top local product, UCLA and Monrovia’s Ashley Sanchez, slipped a bit to No. 4 overall to the Washington Spirit on Thursday. USC and Coto de Caza’s Natalie Jacobs was also picked by the Spirit. The Chicago Red Stars picked USC and Ontario’s Julia Bingham in the second round, UCLA and LA native Chloe Castaneda was picked by the Houston Dash in the third round, UCLA and Mission Viejo’s Kaiya McCullough was selected in the fourth round by the Spirit. Here’s some draft analysis from our friends over at All for XI.
- Los Dos tryouts: If you harbor dreams of being a professional player, actually have the chops, are between the ages of 17 and 25, can pay your way there and can pay the application fee, LA Galaxy II are hosting open tryouts this weekend and next weekend. Check out the details on the team’s website. Good luck!
