On a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Dignity Health Sports Park, the Galaxy stumbled. Poor defensive play doomed LA in a 4-3 defeat to Vancouver.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto made two changes to the lineup: Efrain Alvarez replaced Joe Corona in the central attacking position while David Bingham made way for Matt Lampson.
The Galaxy were recycling the ball around well enough but struggled to create clear opportunities. Unfortunately Vancouver went ahead off a corner kick when Doneil Henry was first at the back post to shuffle the ball past. Three minutes later the Galaxy responded when Cristian Pavon got the endline and pulled a cross back for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
LA had improved lately at giving up late goals, but Theo Bair nabbed a header late in the half at the Whitecaps re-took the lead.
Uriel Antuna leveled the match in the 58th minute in superb style, running onto a Jona dos Santos long ball and touching past keeper Maxine Crepeau. The Galaxy would pepper the Whitecaps net and Chris Pontius leveled late, but Vancouver managed to hit the counter-attack in sudden death to steal the points.
