LA Galaxy fall to San Jose in Cali Clasico

The LA Galaxy never really got going Saturday night at Stanford Stadium, losing to the San Jose Earthquakes by a three-goal margin after pushing late for an equalizer.

The unique man-marking system deployed by manager Matias Almeyda has frustrated opponents the past few months, and LA were the latest team to struggle against the well-oiled Quakes machine.

In the 11th minute Vako put San Jose in front off a broken set piece, firing a low rocket from outside the right corner of the box that beat David Bingham at the far post. LA grew into the match, most notably when a Zlatan heel pass forced Tommy Thompson to dribble across his goal line, but were basically limited to half-chances.

Efrain Alvarez checked in at halftime in place of an injured Sebastian Lletget, but the Galaxy could not generate anything in the attack. Late in the match Shea Salinas blew past an exhausted Dave Romney and slammed a finish home before a Perry Kitchen own goal extended the San Jose lead.
