LA Galaxy sailing in Week 9 MLS Power Rankings

Almost on top.

MLS: Real Salt Lake at LA Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

To summarize:

The LA Galaxy lead the league in points per game, are tied for the best defense and have faced a tougher scheduler than their rivals across town while facing considerably more adversity. (The Ola Kamara transfer, Zlatan’s injury woes, Romain’s absence, etc.)

While some of the league pundits appear content with waiting for the Galaxy to slip up, Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s squad continues to grow by the match. The cohesion, a little bit stronger, the system, a little more efficient. Diego Polenta, the center back who was instrumental in both of LA’s goals Sunday night? A little more fitter. The Galaxy still cross the ball far too often, but the attack is a bit more sophisticated than “Hoof it to Zlatan”.

Two wins and a road draw in eight days isn’t bad either, and as a result LA only trail LAFC in this week’s Power Rankings.

One reason LAFC suddenly look a bit shaky is that the Galaxy are practically a juggernaut at getting results, with the league’s best form of seven games unbeaten, six of those wins. For those who think the pieces don’t quite fit yet, they are showing improved squad chemistry every game, too.
