LA Galaxy slip in Week 2 MLS Power Rankings

That’s the way the game is played

MLS: LA Galaxy at FC Dallas Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

If Saturday’s two goal defeat to FC Dallas was an exercise in damage limitation, the Power Rankings Politburo certainly didn’t take the absences of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romain Alessandrini among others into consideration.

As a result, the LA Galaxy have dropped down to the No. 12 spot for this week’s Power Rankings. Next up for Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s group? A home matchup vs. a revamped Loons squad with an upgraded defensive spine following the arrivals of veterans Ozzie Alonso and Ike Opara.

So Zlatan couldn’t play? No problem, they’ve got Ola Kama--oh, hang on a second. That transfer of Kamara to China may have been best for the player, but if Ibrahimovic can’t play nearly all the games the rest of the way, the lack of forward depth is truly glaring for the Galaxy.

With Ola Kamara and Giovani dos Santos no longer with the club and potential reinforcements on the way, the club has essentially extended its preseason. The Galaxy will get out of this pickle eventually, but in the meantime the results have to come.
