Chris Pontius earns MLS Team of the Week honors

LA Galaxy attacker rewarded for notching a brace vs. the Revs

Major League Soccer

Signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to a TAM deal may have been highway robbery, but it appears bringing Chris Pontius to LA was a stroke of genius.

The UC Santa Barbara product has been named to the MLS Team of the Week after scoring two tantalizing goals during the LA Galaxy’s last-gasp victory over the Revs in Foxborough. After sprinting onto the path of Ashley Cole’s cross and coolly slotting home a shot on the half-volley inside Matt Turner’s side netting, Pontius ran onto Giovani dos Santos’ dummy to steer a clutch finish past Turner deep into stoppage time and steal all three points from Brad Friedel’s side.

Pontius has been on fire lately, contributing a goal or an assist in seven straight league matches. With LA heading to Philadelphia to play Pontius’ former team in Week 21 action, expect the attacker to continue his fine run of form.

Additionally Romain Alessandrini made the bench after an inspired performance.
