The latest on the LA Galaxy playoff picture

#WinAtMin

MLS: Los Angeles Galaxy at Sporting KC Peter G. Aiken

Dom Kinnear’s men earned a hard fought point on the road Saturday night at Children’s Mercy Park to inch closer to a 2018 MLS Cup playoff spot.

Yes the LA Galaxy could have jumped Real Salt Lake in the standings with a win, but it was a gusty, resilient effort that will strengthen the group’s resolve heading into the final two matches. Even more importantly...

The Galaxy’s failure to take all three points meant LA needed the Portland Timbers to stroll into Rio Tinto Stadium and get a result vs. a RSL team with a 14-game unbeaten streak at home. Portland delivered big time, shellacking the Claret and Cobalt who imploded in spectacular fashion.

Mike Petke’s side now haven’t won in four straight, and unless RSL take maximum points to finish the season LA can close the gap.

Five Thirty Eight’s latest projections give the Galaxy a 29% chance of making the playoffs, a percentage we at LAG Confidential don’t agree with. Could the formula be over-empathizing Minnesota United’s home record or not giving LA’s recent resurgence the credit it deserves? Who knows.

One thing’s for sure: If LA can take all three points vs. MNUTD in front of 50,000 plus at TCF Bank Stadium, all bets are off.
