LA Galaxy and Sporting KC draw 1-1

MLS: Los Angeles Galaxy at Sporting KC Peter G. Aiken

The LA Galaxy earned a valuable road point at a rainy Children’s Mercy Park Saturday night to stay alive in the MLS Cup 2018 playoff hunt.

The first half was a tense affair: Sporting pressed the Galaxy back line while LA were resolute in defense. David Bingham in particular was spectacular, logging three massive saves to keep SKC off the scoresheet during a brief flurry. However it would be Ola Kamara who drew a penalty after Matt Besler nudged the Norwegian international off the ball inside the box, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic put away the penalty to give the Galaxy a narrow lead.

The second half was a bag of nerves for Galaxy fans: Time and time ahead SKC peppered the Galaxy defense, including a miraculous sequence when only the post and the crossbar prevented Sporting from equalizing.

Just when it appeared LA could escape SKC with a massive road win, Johnny Russell broke through the Galaxy defense with a solo effort and side footed a simple finish past the red-hot Bingham.
