A month ago the LA Galaxy were facing a humiliating playoff exit and required a near-perfect run of form to qualify for the postseason.
A series of clutch results followed: Dom Kinnear’s men dismantled a Sounders team in red-hot form, blew out Vancouver, scraped out a point at Children’s Mercy Park and conquered the turf monster in Minnesota, leading to a big jump in this week’s Power Rankings.
The mission is almost complete. Win at home vs. a Dynamo side in terrible form and LA can start thinking about the Knockout Round.
LA are surging and the schedule is breaking in their favor, with RSL out of games and a battered Dynamo side on tap for Decision Day. If the Galaxy mess it up and miss the playoffs, it’s going to be a colossal miss, but momentum is firmly on their side here.
As Mike Petke puts it, Real Salt Lake have a “One in a million chance” to make the playoffs.
