Could be.

Are the LA Galaxy looking to add an expensive new attacker, and potentially a manager as well?

The Argentine branch of Marca is reporting the five-time league champs are interested in signing Boca Juniors striker Darío Benedetto. A standout in Liga MX with America and Club Tijuana, the Argentine international has wreaked havoc on MLS defenses in the CONCACAF Champions League and would significantly boost LA’s crowded attacking corps.

Adding to the intrigue is the possibility Boca Juniors manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto could accompany Benedetto in a move to American soccer.

What should Galaxy fans make of the report? The organization has attempted to sign Benedetto in the past, so it shouldn’t be a big surprise if the Galaxy are giving it another go. Similar to how Tata Martino lured a number of his fellow Argentines to Atlanta, it wouldn’t be unusual for Schelotto to recruit Benedetto to Los Angeles. It must be said, capturing GBS would be a real coup for Chris Klein and the front office.

On the other hand, the arrangement is a risky proposition. Signing Benedetto after hiring Schelotto would be a neat 1-2 combo, but LA desperately need help in defense. Additionally Benedetto is just coming back from a ruptured ACL. The report claims LA are offering more than the first go around, but you’d have to think the Galaxy are offering less.

We’ll see how legitimate this development turns out to be.
