LA Galaxy draw Seattle Sounders 1-1 on the road

MLS: Seattle Sounders FC at Los Angeles Galaxy Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The LA Galaxy put in a respectable showing on Sigi Schmid’s return to CenturyLink Field, as Gyasi Zardes’ first half header was enough for LA to draw Sounders 1-1 Sunday night in Seattle.

After a confident opening from a new-look Galaxy squad led by the tandem of Sigi and newly minted assistant coach Dominic Kinnear, LA took the lead off a beautiful sequence. After a bit of possession, Jonathan dos Santos surged up the middle of the park before locating Romain Alessandrini on the wing, who probed before deftly serving a teasing cross with his weaker right foot that Zardes redirected past Stefan Frei and in.

Soon afterwards the excellent Joe Kempin was unlucky to suffer a knee injury after a collision with Nicolas Lodiero. Brian Rowe was inserted into the match and immediately was forced into an excellent save on Clint Dempsey.

The Galaxy continued their positive play, frustrating the Sounders attack time and time again. However LA were breached late when an acrobatic cross from Roman Torres was bundled in by Lamar Neagle.
