Well, we’d by lying if we said we didn’t see this coming. LA Galaxy defender Nathan Smith has been retroactively suspended by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for one match.
During the 59th minute of last week’s 2-1 loss at home to Sporting Kansas City, the right back lined up a tackle on Benny Feilhaber and got it all wrong, sinking his exposed studs into Feilhaber’s ankle, who was subsequently taken out of the match and later diagnosed with a leg contusion and ankle sprain. Ouch.

Smith will serve the suspension during the Galaxy’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, July 1 (7:30 p.m. PT, Univision).
After signing from LA Galaxy II before the start of the 2017, Smith has made nine appearances and eight starts so far this season. He’ll be available for selection when the Galaxy return home to host Real Salt Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4 (Spectrum SportsNet, Spectrum Deportes) at StubHub Center.
