LA Galaxy defender Jelle Van Damme on ExtraTime Radio

The Galaxy captain gets loose, talks soccer, life and everything in-between

MLS: Seattle Sounders FC at Los Angeles Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Live from Hoboken New Jersey, the big bald Belgian talked with the league radio crew for an extended period of time before yesterday’s huge road win vs. the Red Bulls to discuss a variety of topics.

Here’s some of the dirt from the segment. (Yes, Jelle discusses the benching) Listen to the interview in full HERE.

-Two years before joining the Galaxy, Van Damme told his agent he would come to MLS, but only to play for a team based in NY or LA.
-When the offer from the Galaxy came in, Jelle was leaning towards saying no. That is, until Jovan Kirovski flew to Belgium, watched Van Damme and later had dinner with the Standard Liege captain, after which Jelle admits he felt good about the move, adding “Jovan pushed me hard enough to make me come to LA”.
-Van Damme admits Sacha Kljestan replaced him in the central midfield at Anderlecht.
