For the first time since 2001, the LA Galaxy have started the season 0-2. It doesn’t get any easier for Curt Onalfo’s side as they travel to Sandy, Utah to take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium.
It’s been an unfortunate start to the season for the LA Galaxy. For starters, FC Dallas is no slouch. Oscar Pareja’s men are arguably one of the best teams in Major League Soccer, and starting the season against the current Supporters’ Shield holders was always going to be tough.
Then the Portland Timbers followed. Like Dallas, the Timbers are tipped to be one of the best in West, and on paper, the game was going to be the perfect barometer for the Galaxy. Instead, an early red card to Jelle Van Damme ruined the prospect of a good game.
Here, the Galaxy travel to a venue in which they haven’t been able to win at since 2013. To make matters worse, they will be doing it without the aforementioned Van Damme through suspension and the injured Ashley Cole, Robbie Rogers, Gyasi Zardes, and Giovani dos Santos.
Real Salt Lake, though, haven’t been excellent either. They arrive on the back of a draw and a defeat, and they will also be missing key players in Joao Plata and Justen Glad.
Games between the Galaxy and RSL have recently been high-scoring affairs. In fact, the last four matches between both sides have had at least three goals scored. Curt Onalfo, however, won’t be thinking about how many goals will be scored, but just getting the win on Saturday.
