MLS not happy with LA Galaxy dive video

League plans to address the incident

MLS: Portland Timbers at Los Angeles Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

It looks like the fun is over for the LA Galaxy social media team. (For now)

SI is reporting that the league will officially address the now infamous meme of Portland Timbers players diving released by the Galaxy as a response to Jelle Van Damme’s quick ejection from Sunday’s game.

Predictably, the clip went viral, setting off a Twitter war between MLS clubs.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the video has had more than 26,000 retweets (and counting), but not everyone is laughing. An MLS league source says: "The league office is going to address it" with the Galaxy.

PRO referees chief Peter Walton says he had seen the video and didn't want to be involved. A Galaxy spokesperson, meanwhile, said the intent was to put together a fun piece of content for social media purposes. (Portland owner Merritt Paulson emphasized that the Timbers did not complain to the league.)

Bottom line: Sadly, we may not see any more videos quite like this from MLS clubs in the future.

Thoughts on the news? It’s a polarizing incident. Was it funny? Of course. Was it unprofessional? That’s up to you to decide.
