Kevin Baxter of the LA Times has reported this morning that, while nothing is official, Marseille winger Romain Alessandrini.

Dimitri Payet, formerly of English Premier League club West Ham, signed with the Ligue 1 outfit during the winter transfer window, paving the way for the move of the Marseille-born winger.

Alessandrini, a winger who will more than likely take Emmanuel Boateng’s starting spot, has been seldom used to begin this campaign. He has appeared in only six league matches, completing 90 minutes only once.

Throughout his career in the south of France, Alessandrini does not have the best of stats. In 54 appearances, he has only found the back of the net eight times while generating 12 assists.

Goal scoring is not his best feature and we should not expect him to score double-digit goals once the MLS season gets underway.

What this does do, however, is give Curt Onalfo options. Having Emmanuel Boateng off the bench is a huge plus, as he can tear apart worn down defenses late in matches.

Or, if Sebastian Lletget needs a rest, Boateng can slide on over to the right side of the attack to provide width over there.
