The USL regular season is winding down with only two matches remaining before the playoffs begin. While they have clinched a playoff spot, seeding is still up in the air and these last couple of games are hugely important to determine their spot. First up, Los Dos travels to northern California to face off with bitter rivals Sacramento FC.
The two clubs have already met three other times this season. Unfortunately, the NorCal club has the upper hand at the moment. They won the first meeting of the season, by a 2-0 score line on the road. The other matches have ended in draws -- 2-2 at Bonney Field and 1-1 at the Track and Field stadium.
But Sacramento come into this match as the leaders of the conference and itching to get that number one spot. They are only ahead of second place Colorado Springs by two points, and a win for Sacramento could be monumental.
When it comes to goal differential, the Galaxy have 10 more goals scored than Sacramento: 48 to 38 respectively. However, defense is what separates these two in the league table. The young G’s have given up a whopping 40 goals this season, in just 28 matches played. While, on the other hand, Sacramento have allowed just 26 to find the back of their net. Sacramento’s ability to stay compact and focused for the full 90 minutes might be the deciding factor, especially in front of their own fans.
While this not a playoff match, the atmosphere will surely resemble one. Neither side will want to make a mistake early one that could lead to a goal so expect a slow opening 20 minutes. Once both sides settle into the match, expect a fast-pace frenzy that ignite both the players on the pitch and the crowd in the stands.
This match is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 PM PST in Sacramento. The game will be streamed live on YouTube.
