LA Galaxy midfielder Nigel de Jong is set to sign for Süper Lig giants Galatasaray, according to various reports in Dutch and Turkish media.
The 31-year-old has been at the LA Galaxy for less than a year but it seems like his time with the five-time MLS Cup champions is coming to an end.
Galatasaray were reportedly in pursuit of Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tioté, but after a failed medical with the Istanbul-based club, the team has opted to pursue LA Galaxy midfielder Nigel de Jong instead. As a result, a rumored agreement has been made and De Jong has traveled to Istanbul to complete the deal.
De Jong joined the Galaxy back in February after leaving AC Milan and agreeing personal terms for a reported $500,000 contract. De Jong was supposed to take up Steven Gerrard’s Designated Player spot for next season, but his departure would mean the Galaxy have a DP-spot open for the 2017 campaign.
In total, De Jong has made 18 appearances for Bruce Arena’s side.
