LA Galaxy NYCFC player ratings

MLS: LA Galaxy at New York City FC Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Well, the nine game undefeated streak in league play is over. Bruce Arena was denied his 200th MLS victory as the Galaxy fell to NYCFC in uninspiring fashion. Basically, the offense was non-existent.

Clement Diop: In his first MLS start, Diop performed well. The Los Dos product was unlucky on David Villa’s early goal and made several big stops to keep LA in the match.

Jelle Van Damme: Back to his hyper-focused self. Aggressive on both sides of the ball.

Nigel de Jong: Another solid outing from the defensive midfielder.

Ashley Cole: Struggled against Jack Harrison’s athleticism early, but adjusted well. Matchups vs. pacier opponents is starting to become a concern.

Daniel Steres: Expertly stripped David Villa in the 70th minute. Had some bad touches, but that could be said for most of the team.

Gyasi Zardes: Another match where Zardes doesn’t look match fit. Desperately needs more game time.

Steven Gerrard: Invisible most of the match.

AJ DeLaGarza: Looked out of sync. Out of position on David Villa’s goal, bad miscommunication with Steres almost led to a second.

Baggio Husidic: Aimless performance. Passing was also not up to par.

Giovani dos Santos: Is Gio playing poorly, or is dos Santos not being utilized properly? Saturday’s performance looked like a bit of both.

Robbie Keane: Looked visibly frustrated, but contributed nothing to the attack. Missed a golden chance in the 71st minute.

Sebastian Lletget: The 63rd minute sub helped pick up LA’s offense, delivering a killer cross that Keane should have put away late in the match.

Emmanuel Boateng: Another positive substitution, Boateng made an instant impact and jump starting the attack. Needed to be subbed in earlier.
