The Colorado Rapids must overcome a 1-0 deficit to avoid crashing out of the MLS Cup playoffs when they take on the LA Galaxy this afternoon.
That Galaxy win a week ago, decided by a deflected Giovani dos Santos header, means the Rapids will need to to get on the scoresheet to have any chance of progressing.
This situation is a new one for Colorado, who boasted of the best defensive record in the league during the regular season but only scored a total of 20 goals at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Not since the 2015 MLS season have the Rapids lost at home, but it is very possible that the Galaxy don’t need to win to progress. If Bruce Arena’s come away with a goal, it would force the Rapids to score three times. Given that, the Galaxy are unquestionably presented with a brilliant opportunity to add another Western Conference final appearance to their name.
