The USMNT will begin 2016 with two friendlies at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
The United States will host Iceland on January 31st and Canada on February 5th as part of their annual January camp, during which plenty of new faces from MLS could get a taste of the USMNT experience.
StubHub Center will be the site of the USMNT’s first match of the year for the eighth time since 2004, with the U.S. posting a 4-1-2 record in those games. On Feb. 1, 2014, the United States kicked off preparation for the World Cup with a 2-0 win against Korea Republic. StubHub Center most recently hosted the USMNT’s win over Panama on Feb. 8 earlier this year.
January 31st will mark the first time the United States has faced Iceland in over 20 years, and will be the seventh meeting between the two dating back to their first encounter in 1955. Currently, the series is split equally at 2-2-2. Iceland has recently qualified for Euro 2016, reaching a major tournament for the first time in their history. They finished second in their qualifying group, knocking off 2014 World Cup semifinalists Netherlands to secure their spot.
The USMNT shares a much larger competitive history with Canada, whom they've faced 32 times since 1925. The United States are currently on an unbeaten run against Canada that has spanned 35 years, including eight wins and thirteen shutouts. The two teams haven't faced each other since 2013, in which the sides settled for a 0-0 draw.
