Video: Landon Donovan's EA Sports FIFA World Cup commercial debuts

One has to hand it to Landon Donovan, he could have went into hiding after being left off Jurgen Klinsmann's 2014 FIFA World Cup United States squad. He's essentially done the opposite of that, appearing in a series of ads that poke fun of his having to watch the World Cup from home; first for the LA Galaxy and now for EA Sports

One has to hand it to Landon Donovan, he could have went into hiding after being left off Jurgen Klinsmann's 2014 FIFA World Cup United States squad. He's essentially done the opposite of that, appearing in a series of ads that poke fun of his having to watch the World Cup from home; first for the LA Galaxy and now for EA Sports.

It's great that he's able to have a sense of humor about the situation, though Klinsmann might argue such a campaign centered on self is exactly what causes him to butt heads with Donovan. In the EA sports ad embedded above, Donovan knocks over a replica World Cup trophy after walking around his house in a USA robe with newspaper headlines wondering if the US have enough firepower.

Plopping down on his couch, Donovan decides to play a little FIFA World Cup, using himself to score the winning goal that gives the United States the World Cup (there he goes again, making it about him). It's all tongue in cheek, and Donovan throughout his career has always put his teammates first. Still, it's fun to see him putting himself out there like this.
