The opening ceremony is over (Jennifer Lopez! Pitbull! Soccer ball people!) and now all that's left for today is Brazil and Croatia kicking off the tournament with a Group A match. This here will be the open thread and guide for discussion of today's events. All times listed in the pacific time zone.
The Games
Brazil vs. Croatia - 1pm:
The arena hasn't been tested in any official capacity, and there were protests in the subway. It's also one of the most unbalanced openers the World Cup has seen, as Brazil are considerable favorites. Who will score first, Neymar or Fred? How many times will the camera cut to Pele? What about Bruna Marquenzine?
How can I watch?
ESPN carries the match in English, and WatchESPN will have the match if you are at work (I won't tell). Univision has the match in Spanish, and will be streaming as well.
Any LA Galaxy angles?
Not really. The club has a number of Brazilians in Juninho, Leonardo, Samuel, and Marcelo Sarvas, but none of them have national team experience (not even at the youth level to my knowledge).
