The fourth round schedule of the US Open Cup was announced today, and it has the LA Galaxy traveling to Peoria, Arizona to take on USL-Pro side Arizona United on June 18th. LA Galaxy II have been eliminated in the tournament, after going down on penalties in last night's third round match with PSA Elite of USASA.
Arizona United need overtime to beat Oklahoma City Energy who lost 5-0 to LA Galaxy II on Sunday. With MLS taking a World Cup break, there are a handful of MLS teams hosting US Open Cup matches on Saturday the fourteen of July. This midweek matchup for LA will be the only scheduled match from June 8th (Chivas USA) to June 28th (San Jose) so there's a chance Arena might take starters down to Arizona.
If other MLS coaches adopt the same philosophy to keep their starters fit, this could be the most competitive US Open Cup tournament in recent history.
