Sometimes the players who have their stock rise quickly are vulnerable to having it fall just as fast. That seems to be the unfortunate case for Omar Gonzalez, who was not included in Jurgen Klinsmann's starting XI for the friendly against Azerbaijan and may not be a planned starter for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

It's something Gonzalez seemed to admit in recent interviews, that his injury may have slowed him down at a time when everyone needed to pick up their game. Gonzalez started with Besler in the friendly against Mexico, as he had much of 2013, but it's possible those days are behind him.

Klinsmann has chosen to stick with the midfield diamond he used against Mexico, now with Bedoya partnering with Zusi on the left and right sides. Jones takes charge of the holding midfielder role while Bradley continues as the attacking midfielder. Dempsey will likely play more of a false nine than a true forward position.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss the United States vs. Azerbaijan friendly.
