Landon Donovan wide left an instant success
Bruce Arena told reporters in preseason that part of the reason for going after target forwards was to allow Landon Donovan to play in the midfield permanently. While the move didn't pay off in goals, Donovan did lead the league in Key Passes.

RSL managed to put the ball in the back of the net twice when they played the LA Galaxy to open the MLS season, one which was called back and the other which carried the tag controversial. Omar Gonzalez thought Beckerman wasn't playing Plata.

Zardes has best MIR in loss to RSL
Gyasi Zardes had the best Match Impact Rating in the LA Galaxy's 2014 home opening loss to Real Salt Lake on March 8. Zardes was more patient with his shot attempts and drew four fouls in 69 minutes. The Galaxy overall wasted chances on the night.
