Update: Omar Gonzalez will not join USMNT until Semi-Finals

Omar Gonzalez will be available for selection by the LA Galaxy this weekend, not joining the United States until the semi-finals should the USMNT defeat El Salvador.

Last night it was reported that Omar Gonzalez has been named as a replacement on the United States Gold Cup squad, taking Corey Ashe's spot. Ashe had been battling an injury since before the tournament began. However, there is an update this morning: Omar Gonzalez will not join the USMNT until the semi-finals if the US defeat El Salvador on Sunday.

This means Gonzalez will be available for selection when the Galaxy take on the Vancouver Whitecaps this weekend. It would appear that Bruce Arena was able to pull some strings. Yesterday, the LA Galaxy Insider reported that neither Arena nor Gonzalez were expecting a call up.

If the Unite States advance to the Gold Cup Final, Gonzalez would miss the Galaxy's match in Colorado on July 27. Should the US advance to the final on July 28th that could also rule Gonzalez out of the MLS All-Star Game. LA begins their play in the International Champions Cup the following weekend, playing Real Madrid in Arizona.
