LA Galaxy's Jose Villarreal named man of the match in CONCACAF tournament

The United States defeated Costa Rica 1-0 on Jose Villarreal's header to take their group and move on to the quarterfinals. Four CONCACAF teams will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

LA Galaxy homegrown forward and Inglewood's own Jose Villarreal as named man of the match as his leaping header lifted the United States past Costa Rica 1-0. He was a least two feet above his mark on a Luis Gil corner kick in the 63rd minute, and snapped home the US' only goal.

As a result the US wins their group in the CONCACAF U-20 tournament and move on the quarterfinals where they'll face Canada who defeated Nicaragua tonight getting the runner up spot after losing to Cuba in their opener. All four quarterfinal teams that advance will make the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey. The match with Canada will take place on Tuesday at 3:00 Pacific on Fox Soccer.

Villarreal played as a lone striker. He had a good look at goal in the eighth minute with the ball 25 yards out just off center, but the effort was deflected by the wall.

Sporting Kansas City's Mikey Lopez picked up his second yellow card of the tournament and will miss the quarterfinal. This match was his thirteenth appearance with the US youth national team, tops amongst the current roster. Jose Villarreal has made 11, and 1 with the under 23 team.
