Official word has yet to be released by the LA Galaxy, but yesterday Cruz Azul debuted their newest signings from MLS Jose Villarreal, Rafael Baca, and Michael Farfan.

In the press conference, Villarreal talked about having to win a spot. The word out of that conference was that Villarreal will be with Cruz Azul officially for a year with the option to buy.
This fits in with what Ives Garlecep said two days ago when the news first was reported that the MLS players were down in Mexico for physicals. The LA Galaxy Insider later reported the same thing as his understanding without citing sources. It's not entirely clear where he got that understanding from.
The reaction has been mixed, with one end of the spectrum tying this in with other recent Galaxy losses and the other end looking forward to what the Galaxy could do with the young prospect's transfer fee. Without knowing the terms of the loan deal, it's impossible to know how much of his salary is getting picked up by Azul. For the 2014 season the deal could mean simply the opening of a roster spot.
