Although Galaxy fans are starting to look towards next year already, there is still time for some 2013 review. Specifically, is there a way we can quantitatively rank each squad player's effectiveness and value to the 2013 team? Let's look at a couple methods.
Here's the whoscored.com proprietary player ratings for the Galaxy (Magee included in this ranking):
R | Name | Rt |
| Robbie Keane | 7.55 |
| Landon Donovan | 7.45 |
| Mike Magee | 7.32 |
| Omar González | 7.26 |
| Juninho | 7.18 |
| Marcelo Sarvas | 7.18 |
| Kofi Opare | 7.12 |
| Todd Dunivant | 6.98 |
| Sean Franklin | 6.97 |
| Brian Rowe | 6.92 |
| Jaime Penedo | 6.86 |
| Gyasi Zardes | 6.84 |
| A.J. DeLaGarza | 6.80 |
| Leonardo | 6.71 |
| Tommy Meyer | 6.69 |
| Greg Cochrane | 6.64 |
| Héctor Jiménez | 6.57 |
| Robbie Rogers | 6.50 |
| Jose Villarreal | 6.49 |
| Carlo Cudicini | 6.40 |
| Charlie Rugg | 6.32 |
| Laurent Courtois | 6.30 |
| Michael Stephens | 6.30 |
| Pablo Mastroeni | 6.29 |
| Jack McBean | 6.28 |
| Colin Clark | 6.22 |
| Rafael Garcia | 6.15 |
These ratings look generally right, though they really don't give a full account of each player's contribution. With the help of Dave Laidig, who has a great "Points Above Replacement" website, I was able to calculate each Galaxy player's "points contributed" to the 53 accumulated on the season. The basis of these numbers is a modified Castrol Index rating.

What do you think of the player ratings? Is it surprising that Donovan wasn't rated higher? Does either rating system make any sense or would you rather stick to what you see with your eyes?
