Four Star Daily: Omar Gonzalez and LA Galaxy giveaways

Not much happened last night in the friendly match between the United States and Canada, but LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez was selected Man of the Match for his performance. He was singled out from the beginning, with Alexi Lalas declaring he was gonna follow Gonzalez the whole match.

This was Gonzalez' third career cap with the US, his first since January of 2011. In the 66th minute he got up on a Benny Feilhaber free kick and just missed the upper left corner of the goal. It's a testament to the type of match that was played last night that Gonzalez' miss was one of the highlights.

There were times a year ago when Omar González thought this day would never come. The 2011 MLS Defender of the Year, a towering 6-foot-5 center back, had torn an ACL last January during a trial with Germany's Nuremberg, and all sorts of thoughts were running through his mind.

It's looking like there's momentum behind Omar Gonzalez such that this January camp will likely see him get serious time with the national team this year. A.J. DeLaGarza didn't dress last night, a less positive sign for his future with the national team.

Gonzalez will get his own bobblehead on July 7th in a match against FC Dallas. The full LA Galaxy giveaway schedule is below:
