Seeing the goalkeeper off his line, Keane managed a training ground goal from about thirty-five yards out. The second minute goal was Keane's first in a brace.

There isn't much to learn from a match like the one last night. This goal is a good sign that Keane's recovery has gone well. He was also taken out from behind in the second half by Travis Bowen and was able to continue, so he looks to be in fine form for the upcoming season.

Of greater question seems to be which forward will start next to Keane in the opener. Both Samuel and Rob Friend went forty-five minutes, with Samuel managing a goal that Keane got the second assist on. Both players still have some time to make their case with the season opener two weeks off.

Robbie Keane scored on a wonderstrike from 40 yards out and from the spot before assisting on the third goal as the Galaxy topped Galaxy II, 3-0 on Saturday. The Galaxy U-18s notched a comeback victory against the Galaxy U-16s, 3-2.

In the first ever White vs. Blue scrimmage between the LA Galaxy and the USL PRO affiliate Galaxy II on Saturday at StubHub Center, Robbie Keane was back and looked to be in good form for the Galaxy. The captain scored twice and assisted on the third goal of the night in a 3-0 victory.

The first of Keane's goals was something he'd probably only attempt in a scrimmage but an amazing bit of skill nonetheless. After receiving a pass and making his turn with the ball in the 2nd minute, Keane noticed Galaxy II keeper Cody Laurendi way off his line and fired a shot from 40 yards that beat Laurendi back to the net.

On the second goal, Landon Donovan was sent through into the area on a great pass by Rob Friend. Donovan was taken down by some clumsy defending and Keane was sent to the spot for the penalty. Keane hesitated before his shot and slotted the ball past a helpless Laurendi who had fallen the wrong way.

On the third goal, Keane made a slicing run through the defense before laying the ball off in the penalty area to Donovan. Samuel collected the pass from Donovan in the middle of the area poorly but struck the volley he created for himself past the keeper.

In other Galaxy on Galaxy action on Saturday, the U-18s defeated the U-16s 3-2. The scoreline was deceptive as the U-16s held a 2-0 lead at halftime in the match. Both teams return to USSDA play next weekend with matches against De Anza Force (U-16) and De Anza College (U-18).

The LA Galaxy and LA Galaxy II are about to play the first ever inter-organisational scrimmage. Let's see if the nursery squad can get a few in on their elders.

Bench: Rowe, Husidic, Ishizaki, Opare, Samuel, Gargan, Meyer, Venter, Cochrane, Gaul, Walker, Hoffman, Rugg

LA Galaxy II: Laurendi; Sorto, Steres, Biallo, Bli; Djokovic, Stojkov, Garcia, Jamieson IV; McBean, Mendiola

Galaxy II is heavy on the academy players, including the homegrown folk. Wouldn't be surprised if this is how things start out this season, with some of those names on the Galaxy bench joining them.

Thoughts?
