LA Galaxy propose return to play in market in August

Club joins forces with local teams to propose live events.

The LA Galaxy joined forces on Friday with other Los Angeles County sports teams and entertainment venues to propose how and when to open up live events in market as the coronavirus shutdown recedes.

In a powerpoint presentation shown to local authorities, enhanced measures to bring sports back with no fans and with robust health and safety provisions were outlined, with the Galaxy among the teams included in the proposal. That proposal also said the Galaxy could open up Dignity Health Sports Park for MLS games in August, alongside local rival LAFC’s Banc of California Stadium.

Bear in mind, of course, that the date of August is a proposed target, one which would need approval from local authorities as well as the league. But it provides a tentative road map of sorts. With the state giving the provisional green light for live sporting events to take place behind closed doors this summer, alongside MLS seemingly inching closer to finalizing a return to play, with the latest proposal mooting teams would head to Orlando for only about a month, an August return to DHSP could be in the cards.

Again, it’s all provisional, but the Galaxy have a target in mind and if coronavirus can be managed and reopening can be done safely, including in a sporting context, perhaps we’ll see LA playing at home again this summer. We’ll keep you posted.
