Cristian Pavon was the unquestioned standout for the LA Galaxy in their season opener on Saturday against the Houston Dynamo, and the Argentine has been rewarded for his exploits in the 1-1 road draw. He earned a spot on the MLS Team of the Week for Week 1...

...and he is nominated for MLS Goal of the Week, too. You have until midnight on Wednesday night to get your vote in on that. Congrats and good luck to Kichan.
More news for this Tuesday:
- Galaxy in MLS Power Rankings: The Week 1 ranks have them at No. 8. It’s early, who’s to say how it will shake out moving forward?
- What went wrong in Chicharito’s debut? In looking at the Mexican superstar’s debut, he never achieved liftoff in Houston. Why was that? Ben Baer has a statistical look at Chicharito’s first MLS appearance and what the numbers say about his day.
- New Corner of the Galaxy episode: Josh and Kevin talk about the season opener, Kevin’s trip to Houston on a parallel trip with the team, and plenty of #soccer and #LAGalaxy talk all around.
- Interesting choice of photo: The Dynamo tried to make an intimidating tweet from Saturday’s game, and it did not go over well, with Aljaz Struna seemingly choking/clotheslining Chicharito.

- In light of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Houston Astros, lots of banter about Houston being so comfortable with breaking the rules, etc. etc.
What’s in the water in Houston that gives them a sense of pride for cheating? https://t.co/raNleKCQ6g

- Edson Alvarez got LA Galaxy bid? The Mexican international is at Ajax in the Netherlands, but an explosive report there claims that both the Galaxy and Tottenham Hotspur made bids for him in January, only for Ajax to rebuff them. Sounds like he’ll be leaving this summer, but it will be interesting to see if he’s connected to the Galaxy again or if the (reported) moment has passed.
De Telegraaf reporting that Edson Alvarez had offers from LA Galaxy and Tottenham over the winter and that he is likely to leave Ajax in the summer. #eltrieng https://t.co/ixSISz3rVF

Today’s question: One game in the books, with the reported pursuit of another defender apparently still ongoing, would you like the Galaxy to look for another upgrade in the lineup right now? If so, where? Let’s chat in the comments below!
