LA Galaxy II ended the 2020 USL Championship regular season Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Phoenix Rising FC, the desert side once again having Los Dos’ number this season. Augustine Williams opened the scoring for LA, but Phoenix scored four unanswered goals to flip the result and then some in their favor.

No matter, because Los Dos had already wrapped up their playoff spot and final position in Group B prior to the game, and now they gear up for the postseason, which kicks off Saturday against Reno 1868 FC at Greater Nevada Field.

The USL Championship’s playoff format is single elimination again this year, so Los Dos need to win one way or another in order to move on. Otherwise, they’re out of the postseason, just like that.

Reno turned out to be a mini juggernaut on the season, as they beat out Sacramento Republic to win Group A. In fact, the only team Reno lost to this season was Sacramento, both times by a goal. They have a lot of experience on their team and can rack up goals, and with homefield advantage they won’t be an easy opponent. Still, I think Los Dos can hang with them and should have every hope of advancing if they’re on their game on the night.

Saturday’s playoff game is scheduled to kick off at 6 pm PT and should be aired on ESPN+.
