This was always going to be a routine assignment for Cristian Pavón.
Of course, we aren’t disparaging El Trafico, nor the opponent. The rivalry between the LA Galaxy and LAFC is every bit as advertised, and Sunday’s battle was no exception.
But a footballer who performed for years at the Bombonera in front of the famous Boca Juniors supporters and starred at the World Cup for Argentina is no stranger to pressure. The quiet but powerfully motivated Pavón likely spent all week daydreaming of the oppurtunity to score his first goal for the club, and did he ever take his oppurtunity.
Favio Alvarez did brilliantly to strip the ball from Eduard Atuesta and surge forward in the other direction centrally before laying a pass off for Pavón to rush onto, and after beating Walker Zimmerman with ease the Argentine’s low finish beat Tyler Miller at his near post.
Gotta love that celebration too. Vamos Galaxy.
