LA Galaxy unlucky in close loss to D.C. United

Galaxy dominate the match but end up empty handed

Despite completely dominating the opening period, a pair of opportunistic goals and terrible refereeing doomed the Galaxy Sunday night in the nation’s capital.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s squad were camped out in United’s half for the opening stages, however LA were unable to take advantage of a slew of half-chances. It didn’t help matters Zlatan had multiple shouts for fouls inside the box that went uncalled.

Finally the breakthrough came -- from D.C. Ulises Segura was first to a Bill Hamid goal kick and popped a sublime ball over the back line for Paul Arriola to poke past David Bingham.

LA would respond right away after the break thanks to a tidy finish from Favio Alvarez, but time and time again goalkeeper Bill Hamid made huge stops to keep United in the match. And as luck would have it, D.C. went ahead in the 73rd minute when Lucas Rodriguez put away a second rebound after a flurry in the box.
