The skills challenge is back!
This morning the league announced the return of the MLS All-Star Skills challenge, albeit in a different format. (Sadly, it appears Goalie Warz didn’t make the cut this year)
The LA Galaxy’s Jonathan dos Santos will team up with Carlos Vela and Wayne Rooney to form a three-man squad which will battle an Orlando City side featuring Nani, Chris Mueller and Jhegson Sebastián Méndez and an Atletico Madrid team starring Koke and two players to be named at a later date.
Shooting, Touch and Volley and Passing are the three skills which will be showcased on July 30th at the Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Shooting
The pressure is on and accuracy is key as each team takes shots on goal, attempting to hit targets with varying point values based on degree of difficulty.
Touch and Volley
Technique and creativity will be on display as each player showcases his ability to score dynamic goals. Players will receive a series of crosses served in by their teammates and attempt to score on goal. Different points will be awarded based on the whether the shot is a full volley, bicycle kick, etc.
Passing
Each team is on the clock to score as many points as possible in two minutes by hitting static and moving targets that range in points based on degree of difficulty.
What do you think of this new competition?
